Episode 30: The Top Ten Best Films of All Time: Two Ways

We decided it was time to jump right in and tackle the best films of all time, but that concept is so subjective that we wanted to hit it from two different angles.
So, first we have the IMDB list of their best movies, voted on by hundreds of thousands of John Q. Publics. It’s a populist list at its most populist.
Second, we have the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound list, which is known for being the most hoity-toity of hoity-toity lists–only the most elite of critics can vote on that one.
And then we compare the two.

Why not use AFI’s list?
We wanted the biggest contrast between The Normal People and The Critics, and Sight and Sound is by far the most exclusive, artsy-fartsy list, much more so than AFI.

I saw 2001 on an original Cinerama screen back in the 1990s. I definitely think the experience of seeing it that way has led to me ranking it higher on my own personal list of “best” films.
